14 – 18 January 2004
We left Phnom Penh at sunrise on a boat that took us five hours up the Tonle Sap River to Siem Reap, the nearest city to Angkor Wat. We each bought three day passes to the Angkor temples, which cover an area of 77 square miles. There are over 40 sites that can be seen, but we concentrated on seeing seven temple areas, visiting some of them twice. Some sites have been restored and others left to the jungle. In both cases, traveling through the Angkor area was impressive.
