Trans Canadian: Winnipeg to Vancouver
We continued through the plains of Manitoba and Saskatchewan, after leaving Winnipeg. The prairie began to give way as we reached Edmonton early on Tuesday morning. We soon saw the mountains in the distance.

After 84 hours and about 2,800 miles of train travel we arrived in Vancouver, British Columbia at 8:30 am this morning, about one hour ahead of schedule.
We are getting ready to take another epic train journey in June – this time to Canada. We will board The Canadian train in Toronto, Ontario for a four night journey to Vancouver, British Columbia.
A 12 day journey in June 2009 around Scotland by train made a special mother / 18 year-old daughter trip.
Lauren and I are now in Scotland for 10 days, taking a mother / daughter trip to enjoy the country’s scenery and history the old fashioned way – by train.
Lauren and I are now in Fort William, on the western side of Scotland and a major gateway to the highlands. We spent three days here enjoying the scenery while dodging rain storms.
We just finished watching the New Europe seven hour DVD series that Michael Palin did in 2006 – 2007. The series covers travels in 20 countries, ranging from Turkey to Romania to Poland to the former Yugoslavia. Boy, was I surprised and greatly entertained.
On June 10th Sandy and Lauren are going to Scotland for 10 days. Our itinerary calls for stops in four cities, where we plan to mix historic sights with the natural beauty of the area.
We have been invited by the Rio Hondo Sierra Club to present our journey to the mountain gorillas of Uganda on Thursday, May 14.
Even more than five years after we took our 4 1/2 month around the world trip with our girls in 2003 to 2004, we still get questions about what the circumstances were leading up to that journey and why we decided to do it. We received our initial inspiration from several sources.
