Her travel philosophy is to experience the journey ‘authentically’, meaning that she minimizes the use of planes and try to use public transportation whenever feasible. She likes to mix visits to the iconic places in the world with the adventure that keeps travel fresh and exciting. We are currently on a bus back to Chiang Mai. We’ve spent the last week in the north near where the boarders of Thailand, Myanmar (Burma) and Laos meet.
We are currently on the fast boat up the Tonle Sap River from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap, Cambodia. We have just finished staying three nights in Phnom Penh, the capital city.
This overview provides some snapshots of our visit to Phnom Penh and Angkor Wat in Cambodia. As we visited some sites associated with the Killing Fields and genocide, be warned that there are some disturbing images that follow.
We are currently flying from Ko Sumui to Bangkok. The Ko Sumui archipelago is located in Southern Thailand. We spent three days on Ko Pha-Ngan mostly eating, sleeping, swimming and reflecting on our trip.
We spent three weeks visiting three major areas of the country: Bangkok, Northern Thailand and Southern Thailand. In Bangkok, our major activities were viewing the temples and seeing the city by foot and by ferry. In Northern Thailand we visited Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai. Southern Thailand, our last stop, was experienced on the island of Ko Pha Ngan.
We are currently riding the Eurostar train between London and Paris. We left about two hours ago and are now 18 minutes into our 25-minute underground crossing of the English Channel.
After arriving in Japan, we spent the first three days in Tokyo. We visited several of the city sights, including the zoo, Ginza and Shinjuku. We also took a day trip to Nikko, which was a two hour train ride each way.
We arrived in Tokyo at approximately 2:45 pm on Sunday. We changed some money, activated our train pass and took the one hour ride into the city. We are staying at one of the three youth hostels in central Tokyo.
