It is Saturday morning and we are preparing to leave Edinburgh, our last stop in Scotland. We arrived here early Thursday afternoon after our last train pass journey from Fort William, via a change in Glasgow.
Edinburgh, the capital of Scotland, was our last stop on our train journey. We spent time here visiting many historic sights as well as several museums.
Quito was our last stop during our Ecuador journey. We had an afternoon to explore the Old Town, designated a World Heritage Site.
The combination of ancient ruins and lazy days on beaches provided the perfect trip back in time for us over New Year’s in 2007.
Tikal is one of the major sites of Mayan civilization, inhabited from the 6th century B.C. to the 10th century A.D. We spent three days viewing this and other ruins in the vicinity.
We spent the last few days in Rajasthan taking the train to visit the cities of Jaipur and Jodhpur. Jaipur is known as the Pink City and we saw the City Palace, Observatory and the Palace of the Winds.
Our Rajasthan journey has taken us to Jodhpur – the last major city before reaching Pakistan (the border is less than 200 miles away). Jodhpur is known as the “Blue City”. It has this name because of the paint color used on so many of the buildings.
Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia, was our first stop in the country. It is a large city with many dirt roads off the major streets. During our two days there, we visited reminders of the Killing Fields period of the country’s history.
We are currently on the fast boat up the Tonle Sap River from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap, Cambodia. We have just finished staying three nights in Phnom Penh, the capital city.
