Running The Sahara Documentary provides a different view of Africa

Last week we watched a 90 minute documentary, called Running the Sahara, which provided a different spin on the normal regional travelogue. Executive produced by Matt Damon, it covers the journey of three men, one American, one Canadian and one Taiwanese, as they attempt to literally run across the Sahara Desert, from Senegal to Egypt, covering about 4,300 miles. Moving through six countries with them allowed one to experience the scenery and people of Africa from an ‘on the ground’ point of view, as they traveled overland for over 100 days.

I am not a ultra exerciser by any means but did enjoy the watching their journey and the effect it had on them. I really appreciated their grueling schedule of running around 40 miles a day, without any break, through the duration of the trip. You can learn more about it at the Running The Sahara website.
